KCGOP Chairman Mathew Patrick Thomas

Mathew Patrick Thomas, known as ‘MPT’, has played a significant role in both the King County Republican Party (KCGOP) and the Washington State Republican Party (WAGOP) for almost 19 years. He was elected as KCGOP Chairman in March 2022 and re-elected in December 2023. In April 2024, he was also elected as the Washington State Republican Party (WAGOP) National Committeeman. A lifelong Seattle resident, MPT graduated from Washington State University with a BA in Political Science in 1996. He is the Vice President of his family-owned business, Pacific Northwest Equipment Inc., an intermodal sales and leasing company operating two cargo container terminals between the Port of Tacoma and Port of Seattle.

MPT’s political journey began in 2006 when he was elected as a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) with the King County Republican Party (KCGOP), a position he still holds. He quickly rose through the ranks to become Chair of the 43rd Legislative District Republicans, where he increased the PCO count from 32 to 89 in just two years. In 2013, he was elected to the Executive Board of the WAGOP, where he served as Finance Chairman for eight years. From 2015 to 2018, he served as the State Committeeman representing the KCGOP to the WAGOP, earning the ‘2015 WAGOP State Committeeman of the Year’ award.

Currently, Mathew is in his third term as a member of the Washington State Election Administration and Certification Board, overseeing state and county election administrations. He is also serving his second term on the King County Citizens’ Elections Oversight Committee (CEOC), where he was elected Vice Chairman of Elections Monitoring in 2022. Since 2020, Mathew has been a Board Member of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Regulatory Fairness Board, representing SBA Region X.

As Chairman of the KCGOP, Mathew has achieved remarkable success. Under his leadership, the party eliminated a $40k debt, raised over a million dollars, and increased the number of PCOs by 63.9%, from 299 to 654. He built coalitions with Asian, Iranian, Hispanic/Latino, Black, and Indian/Sikh American communities, revitalized the party’s digital presence, and significantly increased social media and email engagement.

MPT is frequently featured in various media outlets, including Newsmax, Brandi Kruse’s Undivided podcast, and local Seattle media. He is a regular guest on conservative talk radio shows hosted by Ari Hoffman, John Carlson, and Jason Rantz. Additionally, he has been prominently featured in Emmy-nominated investigative journalist Jonathan Choe’s coverage of key events.
