Next year, we will celebrate 250 years of the United States of America. Though many will seek to use this as an opportunity to downplay the merits of our history, at Washington Policy Center, we want to lift up the voices that affirm the greatness of our nation and culture. Kim Nguyen went from being unable to afford food in her home village to owning a beauty school in Seattle. In Vietnam, she needed connections to be successful, but in the United States, the spirit of opportunity meant that she was able to rise with hard work and merit.
