Are you ready for an income tax in Washington state?

On Oct. 30, the Washington State Standard reported that Democrats in the state Senate are considering an income tax for the 2026 legislative session. This new tax would be on top of the $9.2 billion in new taxes Democrats passed in 2025 – the largest increase in the history of Washington state.

With Washington families already facing some of the highest prices for groceries, child care, and gas in the nation, lawmakers are returning to Olympia for Committee Assembly Days to preview the policies headed our way, including:

▶️A state income tax;
▶️Higher business and occupation taxes; and
▶️No meaningful financial relief for housing, child care , or small businesses.

Rep. Peter Abbarno is urging Washingtonians to get engaged before bills start prefiling on December 1. Prefiled bills can be found here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/prefiled
