House Republican Caucus Chair Peter Abbarno recaps week six of the 2025 legislative session on policy committee cutoff – that’s the deadline for bills to pass out of committee.
Any bill that does not pass out of committee by end of business today is dead for the year, unless it is considered necessary to implement the budget.
❌The bad bills:
▶️HB 1409 would increase the climate standards under the Climate Commitment Act (CCA). This would make fuel in Washington more expensive, driving up the cost of other goods and services like food and housing.
▶️HB 1607, also known as the bottle tax, would add about 10 cents per container. The bill has a $200 million fiscal note, which would be passed down to consumers.
Stay tuned for more weekly recaps from Rep. Abbarno during the 2025 legislative session.
