We The Governed – Did AG Bob Ferguson sabotage Hilary Franz? – Washington’s Dept of Nat Resources loses $1.4 million

Earlier this week, the Washington Department of Natural Resources lost a $1.4 million lawsuit and were formally found by a judge to violate the Public Trust. In addition to destroying private property, suffocating a major shellfish bed in Hood Canal and exterminating an entire salmon run, this lawsuit exposes serious deficiencies of the State AG’s office in their legal representation of the Dept. of Natural Resources.

The shockingly sloppy legal work by the AG’s office has raised questions about their legal competency – particularly considering the fact that AG Bob Ferguson is currently running for Governor against the Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz, who is in charge of the Dept. of Natural Resources. Nothing about this legal case reflects well on either agency, and it was clear the DNR was in the wrong, but the AG’s attorneys were exceptionally unprofessional in this case, and some suspect Ferguson’s office is being even more unprofessional in representing this agency.
